We filmed over two days, one full day for the control room scene, and one day for the kitchen & field scenes. We shot the space control room in a local church’s media control room and used all practical graphics for the monitor screens. This allowed us to save more of the budget to go toward VFX for the rocket launch the dad and daughter see for a more realistic setting.
Casting an older and younger actor who both looked like they could be the same person, as well as finding an actor who could play their father was one of the biggest challenges. Through Gray Talent we found Andi Muriel, and then connected with her sister Abby who is 10 years younger and also acts, and cast them as the younger and older versions of the main character. We enlisted the talents of Jonald Jude, an actor and teacher at Second City, and also Filipino, for the father role.
